Our Story

In 2000, the Cambridge Sculpture Garden (CSG) Volunteer Committee acquired a flat piece of land owned by the City of Cambridge and the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA). Within weeks, the site was transformed into an inviting, contoured sculpture garden.

The creation of the garden was made possible through the generous support of local organizations, businesses, and community members. Twenty-two truckloads of soil were donated to contour the land, while Connon Nursery generously provided shrubs. A TD Friends of the Environment Grant allowed us to plant approximately one-third of the garden with native species, and the Air Cadets planted more than 150 native shrubs and grasses along the river walk. Compact Sod donated all of the sod, as well as the labour to install it.

In 2000, Our first sculpture, Twilight by Andreas Gehr, was donated by the Grand River Conservation Authority, marking the beginning of what would become a unique outdoor collection of contemporary sculpture in Cambridge.

We currently have seven permanent sculptures and one mural and have showcased over 20 temporary sculptures.

The garden continues to grow through the generosity of donors and city, regional and provincial grants.

We are nestled along the historic Grand River in the heart of Galt Downtown City Centre and are joined along the Trans Canada Trail. Our gardens offer an oasis to all, free of charge, 24/7.

We are a volunteer committee and registered charity, dedicated to enhancing and preserving this green space which we developed in downtown Galt. We present both temporary and permanent sculpture in the garden and along the river walk.
